Improve student support
We need to give our students all the tools they need to succeed, from wraparound services to fully-funded special education. Every child has potential, and maximizing learning will build the workforce of our future.
Fiscal responsibility
We need to streamline our taxpayer funds to support our teachers, staff and students.
Return to local control
No taxation without representation! Every constituent deserves to have a democratically-elected school board that is held accountable to the voters. We will move forward by listening to our parents, students and teachers to create the best school district for OUR community.
Ending high-stakes testing
Between college, medical school, graduate school and neurology boards, I've taken more exams that I can count. And I know that exams can be a great way to assess how much we've learned, but not all tests are equal. STAAR testing is VERY expensive ($90 million per year!), and resulting scores are a sub-optimal rubric for grading schools and teachers. Let's do what's best for our students, teachers and schools and end high-stakes testing.
Keep libraries alive!
Throughout my K-12 years, college and medical school, libraries have been critical for getting to where I am today. And, librarians do so much more than checking out books- they help teachers craft a unique reading curriculum for the classroom. Librarians have also helped my own son with dyslexia as his reading level continues to change every week!
Instead of turning libraries into detention centers, we need to prioritize having certified librarians in every HISD school.
